Wine Enthusiast
Reviewed December 2008A firm and tannic wine initially, but then it opens out with such sweet, generous fruits and flavors of strawberries and pepper. The texture is dense, a vertical pile of ripe tannins and richness. (RV)

Vinous
The 2006 Echézeaux Grand Cru, the maiden vintage, has a simple bouquet with fully mature scents of leather, musk and pain grillé, the oak a bit too present even after almost two decades. The palate is medium-bodied and fleshy with supple tannins and gentle grip, pleasurable but missing the cerebral aspect that Louis-Michel has introduced in recent years, partly by changing the oak regime. A solid opening, even if after almost two decades I wager that it will not improve in bottle. (NM)
Notes
Échezeaux is a grand cru vineyard in Flagey-Échezeaux, beside Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. This 2006 Pinot Noir comes from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, the Vosne-Romanée estate reestablished by Louis-Michel Liger-Belair in 2000, renewing his family’s longstanding connection to Burgundy. This bottle has a nicked label.
