Of the 2002 Lewis Cellars Napa Valley Syrah, Wine Spectator writes: "A sensational, breathtaking Syrah that's inky dark and saturated with rich currant, blackberry, boysenberry and huckleberry, with a stunning display of mocha, espresso bean and vanilla doses of oak, yet for all its richness, plushness, density and concentration, this wine remains impeccably balanced. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2002 Arietta "Variation One" Napa Valley Red Blend (95RP, 93ST). Wine Advocate: "The stunning 2002 Variation One (70% Merlot and 30% Syrah) exhibits an exotic, opulent personality with a deep purple color, and sweet aromas of cocoa, new saddle leather, black raspberries, cassis, and acacia flowers. Full-bodied, with beautifully integrated oak (all of these wines are aged in 100% new French wood), wonderful sweetness, tremendous delineation, and laser-like clarity and transparency of character. This is a Chardonnay from Meursault produced by Domaine Robert Ampeau & Fils, a historic family estate known for releasing wines only after extended cellar aging. The wine comes from the Premier Cru vineyard La Pièce-sous-le-Bois, a small climat on the southern side of Meursault bordering Puligny-Montrachet. Domaine Ampeau became famous for maintaining deep library stocks and holding back vintages for years or even decades before release, allowing the wines to mature under ideal cellar conditions before reaching the market.
Bid on this 3 liter of 2002 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (3L) (96WE, 94JD, 93DC, 93WS, 92ST, 91RP). Wine Enthusiast: "Surprisingly lively and fresh, this is still a seriously impressive wine. The high proportion of Semillon is now coming to dominate the Sauvignon, to give a wine that is finely shaped, full of creamy flavors of wood and some white peach. In 10 years, this will still be fresh, in 15 just mature. (RV)" (06/2005)

Bid on this magnum of 2002 Spottswoode "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (100RP, 100TWI, 99JD). Wine Advocate: "In 2002 very small yields produced only about 3, 000 cases at 14.7% natural alcohol and a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc. This wine is going from strength to strength since I first tasted it prior to bottling. Now a perfect wine, the incredible perfume of blueberries, black raspberries and cassis, along with white flowers and camphor is extraordinarily fragrant and intense. That is easily matched by the magnificent full-bodied richness and compellingly layered mouthfeel of this wine that is rich, full-bodied and a still youthful vintage that remains capable of another 25-30 years of cellaring. Bid on this bottle of 2002 Domaine Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru "Montée de Tonnerre" (94BH, 94VN, 93ST, 92JM, (90-91RP)). Vinous: "Healthy bright yellow. Classic brothy, crushed-stone Chablis nose, with lively hints of ripe citrus fruits and flowers. Wonderfully dense and tactile yet weightless, showing a sexy creaminess in the mid-palate for such a mineral-driven wine. An element of candied yellow fruits emerged with air, with a repeating floral note providing lift. Beautifully balanced, vibrant and long, finishing tactile and classically dry but not at all austere. A bit like the 2010 in style. (ST)" (04/2019)

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Bollinger "La Grande Année" Brut Champagne (98W&S, 97JS, 96DC, 96JD, 94RP, 94VN, 94WS, 93BH, 93JG). Wine & Spirits: "There is Champagne, and then there is 2002 Bollinger. This wine makes me dizzy, stammering in cross-eyed bliss. Taking a step back, the sustained chord of flavor comes into focus, revealing a limestone honey: scents of acacia, marzipan, apricot and golden citrus. Jamal Rayyis, one of our tasters with the broadest flavor library in his head, described the scent as loomi (dried lime) and dried apricot, as if walking into a Middle Eastern market. Flavor details aside, the wine’s richness softens the structural grandeur of the vintage, which is buoyed in a mineral bath of power. This will reward another ten or 20 years of age, and the bottles that remain will likely only feed the wine’s legend. " (12/2011)

Bid on this magnum of 2002 Torbreck "The Factor" Barossa Valley Shiraz (1.5L) (OWC - 99RP, 96JH, 93ST) in original wood. Wine Advocate: "Remarkably, the 2002 The Factor may be even more awesome than the 2001. It boasts a blackberry liqueur-like intensity with chocolatey richness intermixed with blackberries, raspberries, and cherries. The unctuous texture, refreshing acidity, and sweet tannin frame-up this magnificent wine. It should drink well for 15+ years. Interestingly, the 2002 The Factor did not have the Cote Rotie-like roasted element found in the 2001, no doubt because 2002 was a much cooler growing year than the record heat experienced in 2001. Stephen Tanzer writes: “Highly concentrated, densely packed and built to age. As young as it is, it also shows a lovely velvety texture rare for this vintage. Bid on this 3-liter Double Magnum of 2002 Château Margaux, Margaux (93RP, 92ST, 92WS), the legendary First Growth from the vintage’s late, gorgeous September, which favored Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend includes a very low 8% Merlot. Robert Parker writes: “This wine reveals a dense ruby/purple color in a style somewhat reminiscent of the 1988 but with more power, concentration, and volume. It has a beautifully elegant nose of black fruits intermixed with truffle, flower, and oak. The wine is medium to full-bodied, dense, with wonderful precision, freshness, and a long, full-bodied finish with impressive levels of concentration.” (04/2005)

With their first distillation happening in 1749, Appleton has had some time to perfect the art of tropical maturation. For decades master blender and chief chemist Joy Spence has been crafting the style that sets todays standard for Jamaican rum. A blend of pot and column distillates, all of Appleton's rums reflect that special signature of Jamaican funk blended with soft and approachable characteristics.

Bid on this bottle of 2002 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (97RP, 97WS, 96BH, 96ST, 95JG, 95VN). Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the La Tâche vertical at The Square. It was initially difficult to choose between the 1999 and 2002 La Tâche, but in the end the former just ascended to the stratosphere, while the latter simply cruised, albeit at a very high altitude. Now at 13 years of age, there is just a slight bricking on the rim. It feels a little more forward than the 1999–a stylish and personality-driven bouquet with predominantly red berry fruit interlaced with warm bricks and undergrowth (much more so of the latter compared to the 1999). The palate is beautifully balanced with exquisite tannin, perfect acidity and an effortless, you might say easygoing personality. That is deceptive because it is a complex and utterly harmonious La Tâche that is the epitome of elegance. Unlike the 1999, I would broach this now with an hour's decanting. Wonderful. The nose is more reticent but left in the glass some gamey notes develop with leather and cherry. Fabulous definition on the palate, a more confident entry, very fresh with great finesse. Quite tight with firm tannins. More masculine than usual. This a real vin de gard. (NM)" (02/2005)

Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2002 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (93RP, 92JA, 91WS). Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Lynch-Bages is showing brilliantly, after a four-hour double decant, wafting from the glass with an utterly classic nose of cassis and loamy soil mingled with hints of cedar and oak vanillin. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and layered, with plenty of rich, powdery tannins and lively acids, as its structure begins to melt, the wine's depth and length is becoming more and more apparent. Like the best examples of this vintage, the 2002 Lynch-Bages has proven a real sleeper. (WK)" (02/2022)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2002 Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne (98VN, 97DC, 97JS, 96W&S). Vinous: "I remember the first time I tasted the 2002 Dom Pérignon with then-Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy at Hautvillers. It was the upcoming release at the time. As was his custom, Geoffroy served the 2002 in a flight that included a number of previous releases. The bouquet was immediately stunning for its audacity. I had never tasted anything like it. Two thousand-two was a year marked by extreme ripeness in the Chardonnays, and that opulence has always been a big part of the wine’s profile. Today, what strikes me most about the 2002 is its timelessness. That youthful opulence remains, yet the 2002 is still vibrant, almost shocking in its freshness. Apricot, ripe peach, tangerine oil, butter and dried flowers all build towards a captivating crescendo of aromas and flavors that saturates the finish. Readers can look forward to another two decades of exceptional drinking. (AG)" (12/2022)

Medium-bodied, the palate features bags of freshness, with firm yet grainy tannins and plenty of mature dried berry flavors, finishing long and spicy. (LPB)" (11/2018)

An almost ideal growing season with no periods of extreme weather, ending with a cool but sunny September. Harvest began on 16 September. The stunning 2002 Bishop (100% Shiraz from 40- to 80-year-old vines) was aged for 16 months in primarily old American hogsheads (300-500 liter barrels). This is a superb example of Barossa Shiraz, combining power and concentration with a sense of balance and symmetry. Dense purple-colored with a gorgeous nose of sweet cassis intertwined with new saddle leather, spice box and licorice, this full-bodied, unctuously-textured effort boasts tremendous intensity, good tannic structure, decent acidity, and a long, heady finish. The 14% alcohol content is relatively retrained by Barossa standards. It should drink well for 7-8 years.

Of the 2002 Turley "Hayne Vineyard" Napa Valley Zinfandel, Wine Advocate writes: "Year in and year out, Turley Cellars’ most concentrated, inkiest purple-colored Zinfandel emerges from St. Helena’s Hayne Vineyard. The 2002 Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard (475 cases; 16.5% alcohol) boasts superb texture, intensity, and power. Spectacular aromas of black raspberries, blackberries, and currants as well as floral notes are followed by a creamy textured, full-bodied, viscous red with remarkable delineation, acidity, and structure for its massive fruit and glycerin. Jeb Dunnuck: "Drinking at point, the 2002 Château Haut-Brion is a beautifully pure, layered, classic wine from this château. Healthy plum-hued with very little bricking, it has a textbook Haut-Brion nose of ripe black fruit, smoky tobacco, scorched earth, and spices. These all carry to a medium to full-bodied Haut-Brion that's balanced, has ripe, polished tannins, solid mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's one of the quintessential Graves that grows on you over the course of an evening. I don't see it getting better, yet it clearly has another two decades of prime drinking ahead of it.
