Bid on this bottle of 1990 Domaine Emmanuel Rouget Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Cros Parantoux" (97VN, 95RP, 94BH). Vinous: "One taste of Emmanuel Rouget’s 1990 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux is all it takes to completely stop the conversation at the table. How can a wine be so beautiful? Ethereal and weightless on the palate, yet with considerable depth, the 1990 captures the essence of what makes Pinot Noir and Burgundy so compelling. Sweet floral notes wrap around an eternal, silky finish that is pure finesse. It’s hard to see the 1990 improving much from here although it will certainly hold for some time. Still, my preference would be to drink it sooner rather than later. (AG)" (04/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Paolo Scavino "Cannubi" Barolo (95RP, 95VN, 93WS). Vinous: "Medium burnished ruby. The 1990 is a racy, irresistible Barolo that offers a rich, alcoholic nose of spices, minerals, mint, and eucalyptus. It is dense and packed on the palate with much intense, ripe fruit in round and immediate style, finishing with great length. Readers lucky enough to own this wine should feel in no hurry to finish their bottles, this 1990 shows plenty of structure and was still outstanding on the second day after opening. (AG)" (10/2005)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Gaja "Sperss" Barolo (96JD, 96VN, 95RP). Vinous: "Gaja's 1990 Barolo Sperss is a sweet, seamless beauty endowed with gorgeous fruit. The wine possesses superb inner perfume and purity even if it doesn't quite reach the level of Gaja's most successful wines in this vintage. Still, this is pure 1990 and pure Serralunga. Bid on this bottle of 1990 Cheval Blanc, St-Émilion (100DC, 98JD, 98RP, 98VN, 97JS, 96JG). Decanter: "The standout wine of the entire tasting. Powerful, smooth, mouthfilling sweetness, still deeply coloured. You will find it hard to track down this wine on the market today, and even more difficult to avoid paying crazy sums for it, but I can assure you that it stands out for the intense, finely picked-out, fleshy fruit notes of sweet damson and plum unrolling against smoked coffee and liquorice notes. Truffles, tobacco and exotic spices are all here – and it’s hard to imagine how it can have done better. Oh, and Le Petit Cheval in this vintage was 98% Cabernet Franc, so another one to look out for if the beauty of the Cabernet in the main wine is anything to go by. Harvest 11-25 September, 40hl/ha yield. They made 76% first wine and 12% Petit Cheval, with the rest sold off in bulk. (JA)" (10/2018)

Full-bodied and chewy, with lots of tannins and a very ripe fruit finish. Tight, muscular and concentrated. Needs time. (JS)" (08/2000)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Bruno Giacosa "Falletto di Serralunga" Barolo Riserva (98RP, 96VN). Wine Advocate: "I remember paying what at the time seemed like a small fortune for bottles of Giacosa’s 1990 Barolo Riserva Falletto at Peck’s Enoteca in Milan. What I would give today to be able to buy more at the same tariff! The 1990 Barolo Riserva Falletto is one of Bruno Giacosa’s most towering wines. Period. Rich, layered and opulent, this mineral-driven, powerful Barolo covers every inch of the palate with masses of dark fruit, smoke, soy, plums, menthol, dried roses, pine and a host of other balsamic overtones. This vivid, kaleidoscopic Barolo is a reference-point wine readers won’t want to miss. As always, the Riserva Falletto is virile and authoritative in tone. Simply put, it its profound. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030. (AG)" (02/2010)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 La Conseillante, Pomerol (98JD, 97RP, 96DC, 94ST, 93VN). Jeb Dunnuck: "The 1990 La Conseillante is fully mature, and totally brilliant. Its medium ruby color is followed by a perfumed, complex bouquet of sandalwood, cedar, ripe cherries, licorice and Asian spices. Upfront and not holding anything back, it reveals loads of sweet fruit and is incredibly complex and nuanced aromatically. This gives way to a full-bodied, integrated and seamless Pomerol that has resolved tannin, perfect balance, an opulent mouthfeel, and a great finish. This is Pomerol in all its elegant, yet seductive glory... " (12/2017)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Domaine A&F Gros Clos Vougeot Grand Cru "Le Grand Maupertuis" (93BH). Burghound: "A simply spectacular and fully mature nose of earth, spice, leather, truffle and a lovely iron/stone note is followed by big, robust, intense and velvety full-bodied flavors that offer stunning depth and richness before culminating in a still firm finish that delivers outstanding length. This is impressive as hell and while not an elegant or especially sophisticated wine, it is approachable now and one that will live for many years to come, indeed it has not yet quite reached its full potential, at least not for my taste. As such, I would be inclined to let it continue to age for another 3 to 5 years or so though if you do decide to open a bottle now, be sure to give it 30 minutes in a decanter first. Tasted three times with consistent notes." (02/2010)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Serafin Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes. Wine Advocate: "Many people in Burgundy believe Serafin is producing the finest wines in Gevrey-Chambertin. He continues to lower his yields, and while he never did much filtering, in 1990 he decided to eliminate it. His 1990s are all concentrated, backward, dense wines that will require some patience. The Gevrey-Chambertin actually comes from the premier cru vineyard Les Corbeaux, but he did not register his holdings in time for the name to appear on the label. In 1991 the words Les Corbeaux will be included in the wine's name. The softest wine of his 1990 offerings, this dark-colored wine exhibits a sweet perfume of black fruits and damp earth. In the mouth, it is medium-bodied, with gorgeous fruit extraction, soft tannins, and a moderately long, round finish. (RP)" (10/1992)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Domaine Leroy Pommard "Les Vignots" (97WS). Wine Spectator: "Exotically seductive, with amazing violet, rose petal, raspberry and currant aromas. The essence of fruit blooms in this wine and the flavors linger on the remarkably classy finish. This defines great Burgundy. Drinkable now or in the next century." (12/1992)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Domaine Leroy Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Boudots" (94RP, 94WS, 93BH). Wine Advocate: "Of the five outstanding offerings from the village of Nuits St.-Georges, the most exotic and flashy is the Nuits St.-Georges-Aux Boudots. The huge nose of roasted meats, pure black-raspberries, and herbs soars from the glass. Full-bodied, with layer upon layer of rich, unctuous Pinot fruit, this super-concentrated, voluptuously textured wine is so rich that the formidable tannin levels are nearly concealed. The finish goes on and on. (RP)" (10/1992)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Tenuta San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri (96DC, 93RP). Decanter: "The nose is practically humming, hovering close to perfection, the burnished Tuscan sun on full display. This is the most perfect level of ripeness, warmth, beauty and juiciness; the main quality here is drinkability. This still has the bite of tannins, their teeth are still on display but exerting a languorous hold, nothing fierce or menacing at this point. Roasted wild strawberries, grilled over sarments, elongated tannins with nothing to prove. (JA)" (10/2016)

Wine Spectator: "A decadent red, with loads of tobacco, cherry and meat aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and long rich aftertaste. I have found bottle variation with this wine, but this is superb quality. *Number 8 in the Top wines of 1993*" (10/2000)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (93RP, 92BH, 90WS). Wine Advocate: "Jadot produced three Cortons in 1990. The Corton-Pougets is a backward yet spectacular wine. This is a specialty of the house and is often among the finest red wines from the Corton appellation. The 1990 is a huge, massive, monster of a wine, with extraordinary richness, a viscous texture, and astonishing chewiness in its glycerin-dominated, high alcohol, tannic finish. (RP)" (12/1992)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Emmanuel Rouget Echezeaux Grand Cru (94RP, 93BH, 90VN, 19JR). Wine Advocate: "Some readers may argue that the Echezeaux is as profound as the Vosne-Romanee-Cros Parantoux. Yes, the difference is negligible. Its nose offers up lavish quantities of sweet black fruits, floral, mineral, and toasty new oak scents. The wine boasts great intensity, medium to full body, gobs of black-cherry and black-raspberry fruit, and an opulent, glycerin-imbued, lusciously intense finish. (RP)" (10/1992)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes (96RP). Wine Advocate: "The Bordeaux-like, saturated dense ruby/purple color is followed by a tight-fisted nose and flavors of black fruits, underbrush, minerals, smoke, and new oak. Although extremely concentrated, the wine is broodingly backward, and not fun to drink … yet. This loaded effort should prove to be one of the longest-lived red Burgundies made in the last 20 years. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Paolo Scavino Barolo (92RP). Wine Advocate: "Scavino's 1990s are immense, statuesque wines of exceptional richness and complexity. The softest, most fragrant, and ready for prime time drinking candidate is the 1990 Barolo. The dark ruby/garnet color is followed by a sweet nose of nuts, cedar, fruitcake, and black fruits. This soft, opulent, full-bodied, luscious wine should drink well for at least a decade. (RP)" (04/1994)

The huge nose of black pepper, jammy fruit, tobacco, Provencal herbs, and roasted meats is followed by a wine with great stature, good balance, and a muscular, rich finish. (RP)" (12/1996)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1990 Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico (94VN, 94WS). Vinous: "The 1990 Amarone is one of the finest aged Amarones I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Everything is simply in perfect balance. The 1990 is a wonderful, opulent Amarone blessed with tons of ripe fruit and seamless personality that flows through to the impeccable finish. There are absolutely no signs of oxidation; instead the 1990 impresses for its balance and poise. Finessed, silky tannins frame an utterly impeccable finish. Readers who might still own the 1990 Amarone should be thrilled! (AG)" (04/2010)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (94VN, 91DC, 90TWP). Vinous: "... Knockout nose of aromatic herbs, strawberry, sweet spices and acacia flower; yet another wine strongly marked by its cabernet franc presence. Fresh and vibrant, this absolutely dances on the palate with strawberry, sour red cherry and raspberry flavors complicated by gunflint and herbs. High acidity provides great clarity and cut to the long, floral, smoothly tannic finish. This has improved considerably with bottle age. Harvested from September 18 through October 3, this Mouton offers amazing balance and fragrance. In 1990 Mouton was still using a heavy toast for its barriques, which resulted in a smoky quality in the wines that was considered by many to be just as typical of Mouton as its opulence. "But we began turning things back in 1993, as we saw that our 1992 was a little unbalanced from the use of heavily toasted barrels, " said Tourbier remarks. 94. (ID)" (08/2011)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1990 Trotanoy, Pomerol (98JA, 95WS, 94RP, 91ST). Jane Anson: "Thyme, mint, fennel, liqourice, cloves, dried herbs all spiral up out of the glass. The tannins are melted but still succulent, and this feels earthy and rooted, with concentration to the black cherry and cassis core even at 31 years old. A ton of colour still, this remains relatively young and shows just how impressive a wine Trotanoy is, with a creamy texture that makes you want to dive right in, with ash and hearth smoke as it opens. At the time Trotanoy was being made in a more traditional way than today - meaning there was less plot selection, and harvests would have swept from one side of the vineyard to the other - but it was being overseen by the supremely talented Jean-Claude Berrouet, and located on the same exceptional soils..." Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné "La Chapelle" Hermitage (100RP, 98JD, 98JS, 97WS, 96DC, 96VN). Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Hermitage La Chapelle lived up to its reputation on this occasion, and of the three titans (1990, 1978 and 1961), it was probably my favorite. Still inky colored and ruby at the rim, it offers an absolutely profound bouquet of sweet cassis, smoked meats, chocolate, licorice and spice. This is followed by a full-bodied, insanely textured, pure and hedonistic palate that has that perfect mix of still-vibrant fruit and ample secondary nuances. I suspect the '61 was even richer at this stage, but the overall purity and freshness here are incredible. It will continue to evolve for decades, but I'd happily open bottles today. (JD)" (09/2015)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe (100JD, 100RP, 96JA, 96TWI, 95JG, 95VN, 94WS). Wine Advocate: "Now, here was the real deal, unfettered by any infection, a regal Saint Estèphe. It shows approximately the same evolution as the 1989 in bottle, but unsurprisingly showed less bricking in magnum format. The bouquet is cut from a different cloth to the 1989 and attests to that warm vintage: hickory, clove, undergrowth and wild fennel, later garrigue-like scents and terracotta, the latter two more pronounced on the bottle format compared to the youthful magnum. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, yet the balance is perfect, a ballerina-like poise with the structure of the Forth Bridge. It is a multi-layered Montrose that offers enormous length, fresh and vibrant with the magnum demonstrating tangible mineralite and tension as it fans out on the crescendo of a finish—a fanfare for Saint Estèphe in all its glory... The 1990 Single Cask Armagnac is a fabulous choice for readers looking for an Armagnac with the gentle, burnished character that only comes from long maturation in cask. Soft and engaging, the 1990 is an absolute delight. Scents of dried figs, spice, caramel, crushed herbs, leather, barrel toastiness and dried flowers are all woven together. No topping during aging results in a spirit with gorgeous complexity that develops in a very gradual oxidation that has taken place over more than thirty years. Lovely. (AG)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Domaine Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru (94VN, 93RP, 91JM, 90BH, 90WS). Vinous: "Impressively youthful saturated dark red color. Deep, brooding aromas of black fruits, violet, licorice and tobacco reminded me of Bordeaux, if not Pauillac. Hugely rich, tactile and mouthfilling, with its fleshy black cherry and violet flavors conveying a strong impression of inky depth without coming across as heavy. A classically dry, medicinal grand cru in a distinctly masculine style, this has the stuffing and structure to last 50 years. Spreads out horizontally on the back end, finishing with building ripe, dusty tannins and palate-staining length. Not the last word in finesse but this is an uncanny powerhouse of a Burgundy. Fans of the style may rate it even higher than I do. (ST)" (01/2019)

Initially cool aromas of cherry, blackberry, minerals, iron and menthol; an initial musty note dissipated with aeration. Sweet, supple and layered, with a deeply spicy cabernet component. Bid on this bottle of 1990 Margaux, Margaux (100RP, 100TWI, 98JA, 97DC, 97VN, 96WS). Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Château Margaux is really beginning to hit its stride at age 31, soaring from the glass with aromas of blackberries and cassis mingled with notions of licorice, cedar and violets, framed by subtle hints of vanilla and spice. Full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's seamless and complete, its velvety tannins and ripe acids entirely cloaked in a lavish but vibrant core of fruit. This is an especially dramatic, fleshy rendition of Margaux, yet it remains impeccably balanced and has decades of longevity ahead of it. (WK)" (02/2022)

With a saturated dark purple color, a huge, unevolved fragrance of black-raspberries, minerals, licorice, and pepper, this full-bodied, virile, super-concentrated, dense, old style red burgundy exhibits mouth-searing tannins, enormous extraction of fruit, and enough body, glycerin, and alcohol to see it through three decades of cellaring. Ripe, dark fruit has flushed completely with that cool sense of mint and the creaminess of American oak, just as the tannins have fused completely, presenting a serene, elegant flow that creates a gorgeous aromatic unity. This comes with magnetic, gravitational pull that draws you in; close your eyes and you are in Australia. The standout wine of the entire tasting. (JA)

Released in 2002 as a travel retail exclusive, Macallan Elegancia is a 12-year-old Highland single malt crafted in Speyside. It matured in a rare combination of Oloroso and Fino sherry casks, diverging from Macallan’s traditional use of solely Oloroso wood. This dual-cask aging imparts a lighter, more nuanced flavor profile with notes of dried fruit, honey, and spice. Bottled at 40% ABV, Elegancia was discontinued in 2009.
