Reviewed September 2026The Roagna 2021 Pira VV is absolutely extraordinary, delivering layers of camphor, pipe tobacco, leather, licorice, baking spice, red cherry, raspberry and blood orange. Made with the oldest vines in the site, it boasts tightly knit, fine-grained tannins that impart impressive structure and also a weightless finesse. It's beautifully balanced, with bright acidity. Still youthfully austere, give it a few more years to fully bloom. What a gorgeous wine. (KO)

Roagna’s Pira vineyard lies in Castiglione Falletto, one of the villages at the heart of Barolo. The “Vigne Vecchie” designation—Italian for “old vines”—identifies the estate’s old-vine selection from this site. Made from Nebbiolo, this 2021 Barolo is presented in a three-liter bottle, equivalent to four standard wine bottles.
