James Suckling
Reviewed January 2026A graceful Barolo with licorice, leaves, black pepper, balsamic, clay and minerals on the nose. Austere on the palate, with thick tannins, a full body, crisp acidity and a tight finish. Best from 2030. (AF)

Seven vineyards, three villages, one family drawing on everything they know in a vintage that demanded it. The Scavinos answered with the kind of quiet grit that only comes from decades in these hills, dark ripe raspberry and cherry lifting beautifully, mixed spices and purple violets giving it elegance, a quiet autumnal earthiness anchoring the whole picture. The palate is broad and generous yet carries genuine lift, tart and juicy, dark earth and ripe rounded tannins finishing with quiet confidence. Drink now to 2045. — Jeff Porter

The 2022 Barolo pours a bright ruby color and shows very pretty aromas of black raspberries, violets, fresh earth, and candied licorice. Medium to full-bodied, it expands across the palate with ripe tannins, balanced acidity, and good length while retaining impressive purity and a seductive profile. I love this wine. Roughly 39,000 bottles were produced. Drink 2026-2036.

Kerin O'Keefe
Rose, iris, baking spice and perfumed berry aromas come to the forefront on the lovely 2022 Barolo from Paolo Scavino. Loaded with charm and finesse, the classy, delicious palate features licorice, wild strawberry, blood orange and a hint of black tea alongside tightly woven, refined tannins. (KO)
Notes
Paolo Scavino’s Barolo brings together Nebbiolo from several sites across the appellation. The family vinifies its parcels separately before selecting wines for the final blend. The 2022 label bears the signature of Enrico Scavino. Kerin O’Keefe describes rose, berry and blood-orange notes supported by tightly woven, refined tannins. The JebDunnuck.com review emphasizes ripe tannins and balanced acidity within a medium- to full-bodied frame, with floral aromas and licorice.
