The level of refinement and purity is immense, with flashy, perfumed aromas of black currants, olive brine, graphite, violets, mocha and licorice. The palate is in near-perfect balance, with a silken mouthfeel and fine-boned tannins that lead to a refined, pure and succulent finish. This is a truly excellent wine from an excellent vintage.

The Private Reserve is a full-throttle red in 2023, enticing with its upfront blue-fruit, graham-cracker crust, and lavish toasty-oak richness. Full-bodied and even more generous on the palate, it unspools in waves of blue, black and red fruit, with rich brown spices dusting the gravelly tannins. For all its richness, it carries an energetic lift that is a hallmark of the cool growing season. This is one Private Reserve to cellar for a good long while.

Dark and winey, with cassis, boysenberry and black currant preserves for a hefty core, while violet, singed sandalwood and cedar, ink and burnished leather hints add aromatic range. Dense but supple, with a strong tug of loam providing for the lengthy, focused finish. Shows heft and power but is reserved in feel, with a wink to the throwback style. Best from 2029 through 2043.
