Reviewed October 2018Pale in colour and delicate, refined and chalky on the palate, this is a classic high-altitude Puligny from Laurenet Martelet. Showing notes of iodine and the seashore, it's the perfect antidote for people who find some of the 2017 whites a little too much. Pear, citrus and spice notes combine brilliantly on the palate.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Hameau de Blagny 1er Cru comes from the vineyard that Remi Colin believes is the most complex in warm vintages due to the shallow soil. The harvest is approached as five parcels according to the depth of the soil. This has a more introverted bouquet compared to the Chalumaux, revealing hints of white flower, honeysuckle, lemon thyme and crushed stone – just beautiful. The palate is very well balanced, displaying more complexity than the Chalumaux, finely judged acidity and so much elegance on the saline finish that you just want to take the next sip straight away.
