A strikingly pure nose of cassis, violets and blueberries gracefully gives way to rich, full, sweet and mineral-infused middle weight flavors that have cut-like-a-knife delineation as well as a very firm tannic spine that will also see this through well past its 25th birthday. While the Champans presently has a bit more flesh around the structure, this is a classic Taillepieds built on its minerality and is best cellared by those blessed with ample patience as this is the most backward wine in the range today. *Don't miss!, Outstanding*

D’Angerville’s 2005 Volnay Taillepieds features a red and black currant melange that is juicy, bright and bracing throughout, accompanied by savory salinity, roasted meatiness, forest floor, and stony, chalky mineral dimensions. A Volnay with terrific delineation and refined tannins in its long, mouth-watering finish, this should be exciting to follow for at least 10-12 years, provided today’s quality is captured in the bottle. The Taillepieds also seems rather powerfully built in this vintage. The color is striking dark ruby. The bouquet is deep and complex, as it offers up a restrained blend of plums, black cherries, dark chocolate, great minerality, a bit of new oak showing, and a vibrant topnote of violet. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and sappy, with great focus, and a very long, very closed and tannic finish. This will need to be buried for quite some time to really reach its apogee.

Bright, dark red. Pure, high-pitched aromas of raspberry, cherry, flowers and spices. Wonderfully sweet and pure, with a much higher pitch and sharper definition than the Cailleret. The strong fruit flavors are enlivened by peppery spices, herbs, minerals and flowers. Very tightly wound wine, with the strength of flavor to outlast its firm tannins. But this one will require patience. (ST) 91+
