Reviewed October 2022TOP QUALITY PRODUCER As expected with Montée de Tonnerre, there are great reserves of power and energy here. Concentrated, fine and with great purity, oak adds subtle extra dimensions in the background. Lovely acidity and a touch of spice to finish. Great class. Raveneau's Montée de Tonnerre is over 3ha in area, accounting for around 1/3 of the estates holdings. Around 1.8ha are located on the mid-slopes of Chapelot. with 1.2ha at higher altitude in Pied d'Aloup which adds additional freshness and vivacity.k (AH)

The 2016 Montée de Tonnerre from Domaine Raveneau is a classic in the making. The pure and nascently complex bouquet delivers a lovely blend of lemon, pear, chalky and complex minerality, a hint of licorice and a topnote of spring flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full and racy in profile, with a superb core, great focus and grip, racy acids and excellent backend mineral drive on the very long, vibrant finish. 94+

Int'l Wine Cellar
(just 15 hectoliters per hectare produced): Bright light yellow with a green tinge. Tight aromas of lime and powdered stone suggest a wine with firm acidity. Then rich and thick for this superb premier cru (Isabelle Raveneau described it as "more of a Côte de Beaune style") but with lovely saline minerality and perfectly integrated citrussy acidity. Very concentrated, utterly seductive wine with terrific breadth and a tactile, very long finish that's surprisingly lively and perfumed.

Here the petrol character displayed by several of the preceding wines is quite prominent on the acacia blossom, citrus rind and white-fleshed fruit scents. I very much like the mouth feel of the sleekly muscular, intense and sappy medium weight flavors that possess plenty of mouth coating dry extract that also buffers the moderately firm acid spine that shapes the well-balanced and impressively long finish. By the normal standards of this wine, the 2016 MdT is much more robust than usual though still impressive.
