The 2024 Chablis Côte de Léchet 1er Cru was taken from barrel before being transferred into a stainless steel vat. Like the previous vintage, this has a little more tension and mineralité than the Beauroy. The palate has a wonderful lick of salinity on the entry, with touches of dried honey, almond and walnut furnishing the tender but longer finish. Excellent.

The hallmark citrus nuances are present in abundance on the ripe and ultra-fresh nose of spice, wet stone, floral wisps and shellfish aromas. The racy and beautifully detailed medium-bodied flavors possess a bracing minerality on the focused, balanced and slightly more complex finale. This is pretty much textbook Côte de Léchet and worth considering. (Drink starting 2031)

Notes

If you've ever stood in a wine shop wishing you could afford Dauvissat, this is the domaine you were wishing for. Laurent Tribut came to Chablis to work for René Dauvissat and ended up marrying his daughter Marie-Clotilde, which made Vincent Dauvissat his brother-in-law and gave the young couple a handful of beautifully sited parcels to start a domaine of their own. For his first years he made his wines in the Dauvissat cellar itself, and when he moved to his own cellar in the hamlet of Poinchy in 1994 he brought the family habits with him: hand harvesting, minimal spraying, fermentation in tank and then a long sleep in old 228-liter barrels, some of them pushing 50 years, with new wood bought only when an old cask finally gives up. The wines are taut, chalky and saline, with just a touch more flesh and friendliness than Vincent's, but age with the same grace. Laurent retired in 2019 and his children Solange, Adeline and Gabriel now run the estate, with Solange in charge of the winemaking. These are tiny-production wines that reward a little patience and taste like they're twice the price. We take every bottle we can get (which is not much)!
