Reviewed June 2025From Abreu's vineyard on Howell Mountain, the 2021 Las Posadas Proprietary Red features floral, violet-like highlights, scents of graphite and crushed stone and layers of dark, ripe fruit. Full-bodied and concentrated, it's deeply textured and tannic, with a long, long finish. Give it some serious cellar time. 98+ (JC)

The 2021 Las Posadas is a total stunner. Deep, inky and savory, the 2021 oozes Howell Mountain character. I especially admire its vibrancy, tension and drive. Crème de cassis, graphite, lavender, mocha, licorice and dark spice jump from the glass. The interplay of fruit richness and structure is dazzling. What a wine! (AG)

This is juicy and brimming with succulence as its mix of steeped Bing and morello cherry and red and black currant fruit pumps steadily, picking up flashes of violet, ink and roasted chestnut. The finish offers tarry grip, with a buried licorice root accent that provides a dramatic counterpoint to the succulent fruit. This will spend the next two decades letting those two sides meld together slowly. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec. Best from 2030 through 2045. 322 cases made.

More perfumed, violet-laced, exotic, and incredibly complex, the 2021 Las Posadas has tons of ripe blue fruit, spring flowers, sage, and incense notes on the nose. This carries to a full-bodied, focused, structured mountain wine offering considerable tannins, integrated acidity, and a great, great finish. All the 2021s from Grimes are structured, age-worthy wines, but this might be the longest-lived of all of them. Do your best to hide bottles for 7-8 years, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this still drinking well in 30-40 years. 97++
