Calderara Sottana takes Nerello Mascalese from Etna’s northern slope, in the commune of Randazzo. The ground is conspicuously stony, with black pumice and basalt and relatively little ash. Tenuta delle Terre Nere identifies its vineyards here at roughly 600–650 meters. The JamesSuckling.com review of the 2024 emphasizes a supple texture and rounded tannins within a medium-bodied frame. Plum and berry fruit carry through the finish alongside smoke and spice.
