So perfumed and floral with bright black cherries and citrus, following through to a full-bodied yet very tight and intense palate. Compact and beautiful. Slightly austere at the end. This needs time to open and soften. Try after 2023. (AF)

Notes

Valeirano is La Spinetta’s Nebbiolo vineyard in Treiso, on a south-facing hillside at 450 meters. Calcareous soil and larger stones distinguish the site. The importer’s 2018 sheet records 22 months in French oak, with 20% new barrels, followed by time in steel and bottle. JamesSuckling.com describes the 2018 through black cherry, flowers and citrus. The palate is full but tightly drawn, with an austere edge to the finish. Fruit concentration and a firm frame give this Barbaresco its compact shape.
