Some fresh rosemary and pine needles bring a herbal, resinous note to the wine. It has some generosity on the palate, juicy red fruits, strawberry and raspberry, with lovely bright acidity and freshness. All in all, a precise, detailed, fresh and vibrant style of Gigondas that's well balanced and authentic. (MW)

The 2023 Gigondas Tradition is based on 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and 10% Syrah aged in cement tanks. Darker, more meaty, pepper, and garrigue-driven aromatics give way to a medium to full-bodied wine with a core of darker cherry and blackberry fruits intermixed with mineral nuances. It has ripe tannins and a great finish. It's a much more classically styled Gigondas to drink over the coming 15 years or more.

A blend of 80% Grenache Noir, 10% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, the 2023 Gigondas Tradition opens with aromas of iris, peonies, Timut pepper and dark wild berries. Medium- to full-bodied, enveloping and seamless, it’s finely layered with good depth at the core, concluding with a long, refined and spicy finish. This is a strong effort and one of the sleepers of the vintage. (YC) 92+

The 2023 Gigondas La Cuvée Tradition is a little muted at first. Time in the glass gradually brings out ripe red fruits, peppery elements and fleshy subtleties. Full-bodied and polished, the 2023 is a classy La Cuvée Tradition with vivid intensity and spot-on freshness throughout. (AG)

The Gardette Tradition is everything you could hope for in a classic Gigondas. A confiture of strawberry and raspberry is accented by notes of pipe tobacco, tea leaf and peppery spice. The palate is juicy and lively, with just the right amount of structure, making each sip more compelling than the last.

Notes

Jean-Baptiste Meunier represents the fifth generation of winemakers at Moulin de la Gardette in Gigondas. We've worked with this producer since the mid-1990s, and these wines remain among our favorites from the region. Gigondas has emerged from the shadow of neighboring Châteauneuf-du-Pape, creating wines of distinctive intensity and flavor. The appellation's south-facing slopes, higher elevations, and varied soils help distinguish the region. The "Tradition" blends Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah from vines averaging 50-60 years old. Aged approximately 18 months in mostly used foudre and demi-muid before bottling. (Keith Mabry, K&L Rhône Buyer) *Organic*
