What a knockout! With subtle brioche, incredible freshness and a dry, chalky finish that goes on for days, this wine gets its texture from around seven years of ageing on the lees, it's incredible finale from massal selected vines planted to the pure chalk of Bouzy and dry snap from very low (around 2g/l) dosage. If you want a real terroir experience, it is in this bottle, but if you just want generous, rich champagne that still finishes definitively dry, that is here too! Maison 76 is our private label here at K&L, but we wanted it to be about true value, not just the lowest price. I think this is one of the best wines on the shelf in any category at this price, and a true marvel of champagne. Don't miss this one!

The third entry in the Westby collection and this one has become a quick favorite for me! It features some wonderfully soft fine bubbles, with some serious depth and power. With just about 7 years on the lees featuring 80% pinot noir and 20% chardonnay. The lees aging lends a wonderful sourdough bread characteristic along with creamy mouthfeel. On the nose your greeted with orange blossoms, light cherry, and pink apple. On the palate its got great acidity, saline characteristic that begs for food, pear, baked apple and a slight hint of vanilla.

The Westby Collection is now a collection of three, with a fourth on the way! Maison 76 was born in the Côte de Blanc's Grand Cru village of Avize with Olivier Bonville of Champagne Frank Bonville and is on the march! Hitting both curves of the horseshoe that is the Montagne de Reims, the journey continues in the Grand Cru village of Bouzy (dramatic pause). Here, Pinot Noir rules and bathes in the sun from its perch in south-facing vineyards. In collaboration with superstar grower-producers Antoine and Quentin Paillard of Champagne Pierre Paillard, comes K&L's Maison 76 Bouzy (dramatic pause) Grand Cru. 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay. On the nose, white flowers, orange blossom, pink apple, raspberry, and white cherry. On the palate, pink grapefruit, rich, incredible acidity, saline, rose petal, fresh sourdough, peach, pear, baked apple, and vanilla cream. I love this stuff! It just kept going. You should try it.

Light gold color. A fine bead of bubbles invites you into the glass which gives an apple tartine nose with sourdough crust underneath. The palate is dry with almond notes and a creamy mouthfeel, leading to an apple pie crust finish. Another winner from the Westby Collection!

Notes

This champagne is composed of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, exclusively from massal selected vines on the chalky, south facing slopes of the grand cru of Bouzy. It has been treated to 100% barrel fermentation and a long elevage in cask before around seven years of ageing on the lees. It is quite dry, with a dosage of around 2 grams per liter. This is one of the very best valuest at K&L, and one of the best acquisitions I have made over the last 26 years here at K&L. -Gary Westby, K&L
