This wine has improved a lot in the last vintages, with more restraint and classic style. The nose is rich, as ever, with green apples and ripe stone fruits, yet allied to lime-peel and pastry aromas, enhanced by chalky mineral undertones. Full-bodied, it shows amazing finesse of bubbles, with weight and a tight-knit structure, zesty acidity and mineral length. Drink or hold. (AF)

Savory and perfumed, the 2016 Franciacorta Riserva Annamaria Clementi entices with a collage of dried flowers, sweet smoke, crusty bread and lemon zest. It’s soothingly round with a burst of candied citrus elevated by lively acidity. A crystalline bead of finely etched bubbles cascades across the palate. There’s an attractive fruit sweetness here despite its zero dosage. The balance is spot-on. The 2016 tapers off long and remarkably fresh, leaving a gentle mineral tinge and hints of green apple that linger on the close. Disgorged: Autumn 2024. (EG)

This vibrant sparkler shows lovely equilibrium. The fine china–like frame of acidity is enmeshed with the finely textured, creamy mousse, which carries flavors of mandarin orange, chopped white raspberry and dried pineapple fruit, plus savory details of beeswax, oyster shell, smoked almond and lemon thyme that echo on the persistent finish. Notes

The 2016 Annamaria Clementi blends 83% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Nero and 2% Pinot Bianco. The base wines ferment in small oak casks, before bottle fermentation and approximately eight years on lees. This Franciacorta Riserva is finished without added dosage. Reviewing an autumn 2024 disgorgement, Vinous described finely textured bubbles, lively acidity and rounded citrus fruit, with bread-crust and floral aromas. Its assessment emphasized the fresh finish, with green-apple and mineral accents.
