Reviewed June 2025This wine is pinot-like due to earthy strawberry aromas, a leesy character, sweet violets and a lot of cinnamon. The smooth attack is enhanced by refreshing acidity with medium body, highlighting the floral flavors. Tight, chalky finish. Drink or hold. (JS)

The 2023 Etna Rosso Santo Spirito is moody in the glass. Dusty rose aromas combine with notes of pine and wild berries, all complicated by a hint of cocoa. Soothingly round and pliant, it splashes across the palate with an array of ripe red and blue fruits guided by vibrant acidity. A saturation of fine tannins emerges through the finish as this tapers off with amazing length and potency, leaving an air of lavender pastille to linger on. The 2023 is a gorgeous interpretation of Santo Spirito.

The 2023 Tenuta delle Terre Nere "Santo Spirito" Etna Rosso is a refined, "moody" expression from 40- to 100-year-old vines planted in deep volcanic ash. It features an aromatic profile of dusty rose, pine, and wild berries, complicated by hints of cocoa and lavender. On the palate, it is round and pliant, balancing ripe red and blue fruits with a vibrant acidity and a saturation of fine, silky tannins. While exceptionally elegant and often compared to Pinot Noir, its long, potent finish and 94–95 point critical pedigree suggest a wine with significant aging potential through 2034.
