The 2020 Barbaresco Asili Vecchie Viti offers up crushed red berry fruit, spice, menthol, new leather, licorice and blood orange. Hints of kirsch, hard candy and star anise appear later, adding an exotic flair. The 2020 has it all—finesse and power wrapped into a super-classic mid-weight frame. (AG)

Defined by vibrant acidity, while the tannins leave a chalky sensation on the long aftertaste. Shows excellent finesse, balance and intensity overall. Notes

Roagna’s Asili comes from a 0.22-hectare parcel in the heart of the historic hillside, halfway up the slope. It faces southwest at about 250 metres above sea level, where old Nebbiolo vines grow in calcareous clay crossed by layers of sand. Giovanni Roagna purchased the holding in 1961. The site lies beside the Pajé hill, giving this Vecchie Viti Barbaresco a precise geographical identity within the family’s collection of separately bottled vineyards.
