The Produttori del Barbaresco 2021 Montestefano possesses heady aromas of iris, violet, red berry and spice. Firm and full-bodied, the palate boasts great energy and intensity that lifts ripe Morello cherry, orange peel, cranberry and licorice. It’s well balanced, with bright acidity.(KO)

The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is a dense, hulking wine. Powerful and dense to the core, the Montestefano is a big, broad-shouldered wine that is going to need a few years to be at its most expressive. Dark-toned fruit, new leather, spice, menthol are all amplified in this potent Barbaresco. (AG)

Notes

Montestefano is one of the named Barbaresco vineyard areas bottled separately by Produttori del Barbaresco. For the 2021 Riserva, the cooperative identifies south- and southeast-facing parcels on clay and limestone soils, planted entirely to Nebbiolo. The vintage’s technical sheet records fermentation in stainless steel with twenty-eight days of skin contact, followed by thirty months in oak casks and nine months in bottle. Bottled in May 2025, the wine was produced in both standard bottles and magnums; this is the 1.5L format.
