Reviewed October 2022The furthest west of Alto Piemonte’s denominations, Lessona’s vineyards are based on pure marine sand giving elegant, midweight Nebbiolo. Paolo de Marchi (of Isole e Olena fame) and son Luca have made wine here since 2002 after recovering their historic family property. The 2015 offers wondrously fragrant rosehip, wet pine and rooibos with hints of orange, then floral nuances. The buoyant palate is driven by linear acidity, while pomegranate flavour dissolves into silky fine-grained tannins and ends with an energising, saline finish. (MM)

From a ripe and generous year, the 2015 is a plusher, more expansive wine. The fruit leans toward darker cherry and plum, with a rounder, more supple texture. It maintains the classic Lessona freshness, but with an added layer of body and richness.
