More impressive now, if possible, than it was from barrel, with more substance, density, and structure, yet it does not lack abundant, nuanced aromas of ripe mulberry and plum fruit. The wine gives an impression of great intensity; there is impressive length and depth of flavour. The domaine has uprooted nearly 0.9ha of the vines in lieu-dit Les Vérroilles, which has increased the concentration of the Richebourg and carried it nearly to the level of the monopoles. 14,526 bottles produced in 2022.(CC)

While the tannins show some youthful edge, this Richebourg is unusually perfumed now. Black cherry cordial, violets, plum-and-port tart and underbrush create quite the sensation. Both intense and refined, there is artful balance between the smooth but sturdy tannins and the waterfall of acidic freshness. There are layers upon layers of flavor here. Romanée-Conti is by far the largest owner of Richebourg with its 3.51 hectares 4.5 times larger than the next largest landholder, Domaine Leroy

The 2022 Richebourg Grand Cru is magnificent. And I say that as someone who at times struggles to connect with this site. Not this year. Sepia-toned, ample and layered, with mind-blowing balance, the 2022 offers up an exotic mélange of black fruit, gravel, incense, licorice, new leather and whole cluster savoriness, all with its usual reserve of power. The 2022 is quite simply one of the best Richebourgs in recent memory. For those who can, don't miss it!(AG)

The latter offers opulence and a silky texture, along with rose, strawberry, cherry, sandalwood and mineral flavors. It is open and translucent, balanced and long, in a word, sexy, despite the structure underneath.

Notes

98pts Neal Martin writing for Vinous: "The 2022 Richebourg Grand Cru was picked on 31 August and 1-4 September at 42.6 hL/ha. It has a scintilla more pixelation than the Romanée-Saint-Vivant when the two cuvées are juxtaposed. Out of barrel, I had the RSV with its nose in front, but the Richebourg is having none of that, delivering stunning aromatics of mineral-infused dark berry fruit, shucked oyster shells, lavender oil and light Japanese wakame scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a very mineral-driven entry to continue that theme. This is heavenly in terms of harmony and grace to the extent that you almost do not notice the untrammeled power wound up in this Richebourg. Fabulously sapid on the finish, it fans out and leaves a tingle of white pepper on the aftertaste. Magnificent. 1,211 cases produced."(02/2025) Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "0.8 ha in Veroilles was pulled out 4 years ago – half of that has just replanted – so there’s still no Veroilles in this cuvee and maybe that accounts for more elegance in the last couple of years? Hmm, a faint young herb but here is also perfume mixed with both power and depth. Hmm, a rounder shape, velour again – super depth, not the structure of older Richebourgs I’ve tasted here but what a finishing width and length!!!"(02/2025)
