Earthy in the glass, the 2005 Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso di Cialla wafts up from the glass with a bouquet of woodland berries, wild herbs, cedar and hints of animal musk. This is juicy and round with zesty acidity and a sour tinge to its red and blue fruits. The word sultry comes to mind as the 2005 finishes long and staining yet still fresh with rosy inner florals that slowly fade. (EG)

The Rapuzzi family transforms wild rustic Refosco grapes into refined noble wines. The wine presents dark flavors with spicy notes and structured tannins which include black cherry and wild herbs and earthy minerality. The grape's firm tannins receive expert integration which indicates the wine will age remarkably well.

A rare, mature library release from Friuli’s iconic Ronchi di Cialla estate, the 2005 Refosco dal Peduncolo is a fascinating look at this savory, indigenous grape at 20 years of age. After two decades of evolution, the wine has developed a wonderfully complex, tertiary profile. The nose is deep and aromatic, with notes of dried plum and sour cherry, interwoven with savory hints of leather, forest floor, and dried herbs. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and elegant, with the variety’s firm tannins having softened into a fine, silky texture. A persistent, vibrant acidity keeps it fresh and focused, leading to a long, mineral-driven finish. A superb, old-school red for immediate enjoyment.
