The aromas alone on the classy and classic 2021 Luigi Einaudi Cannubi will captivate you thanks to the rich fragrance of rose, truffle, wild berry, cedar and culinary spice. The palate also crushes it, delivering ripe Morello cherry, strawberry tart, cake spice and menthol enveloped in velvety tannins that demonstrate the elegance this cru is celebrated for. Fresh acidity keeps it well balanced. (KO)

This is a real beauty. Poderi Luigi Einaudi has expertly managed to interpret this legendary cru in a classic vintage. The 2021 Barolo Cannubi is a finely textured wine with a long succession of aromatic high tones that include cassis, licorice, smoke, iris and something almost citrusy in character. The wine is tight but streamlined on the palate, and it pushes forward with long, polished intensity. (ML)

A stylish red, exhibiting cherry, strawberry, rose and stony mineral flavors. Linear, elegant and verging on racy, this shows finesse and detail, with impeccable balance. The well-integrated structure extends on the finish. (BS)

A classic Barolo with dried cherries, dried roses and violets, licorice and pomegranates. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate, it shows ripe, elegant tannins, refreshing acidity and a tense, chewy finish. Drinkable now, but best in two three years due to its tension.

Cannubi is arguably the most famous and historically significant hill in Barolo. Its magic lies in its unique geology, where the two primary soil types of the region—the sandier Tortonian soils and the heavier Serravallian (Helvetian) marl converge. This "marriage" of soils creates what many consider to be the most complete and harmonious Barolo. Cannubi wines possess a rare balance of power and elegance, structure and perfume. They offer intoxicating aromatics of rose and red fruits, backed by a refined tannic structure and remarkable complexity. It is a wine that captures the very essence of Barolo in a single bottle.

Notes

From the iconic Cannubi cru in the heart of Barolo, Einaudi’s 2021 bottling captures the finesse and aromatic lift for which this historic vineyard is known. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in large Slavonian and French oak casks, the wine opens with delicate notes of dried rose, wild strawberry, and sweet herbs. The palate is graceful and precise, with silky tannins and bright acidity supporting flavors of red cherry, orange peel, and a touch of sandalwood. A beautifully poised Barolo with long-term aging potential—elegant now, but will evolve gracefully through 2040 and beyond.
