Certainly our greatest value in Sauvignon Blanc can be found in the mouthful of both words and wine, the 2023 Domaine du Vieil Orme Sauvignon “Inphini” Touraine Chenonceaux Blanc $16.99, a richer version from the original bottling that we’ve carried for years. The Touraine region comprises a wide range of wine styles, from the robust reds of Bourgueil and Chinon to the expressive whites of Vouvray, but there is always room for another, and this refreshing wine evokes aromas of tropical fruits- mango, lychee, quince, with delightful flavors of sweet citrus and peach skin. So enticing, and the perfect aperitif to serve at a spring barbecue! Or dive into a platter of grilled scallops for another delicious treat!

This is slightly fuller and more complex than the outstanding Domaine du Vieil Orme Sauvignon featured for the past few years on our floors. It opens with rich aromas of citrus and gooseberry and continues to a round palate of citrus and tropical fruit with mouthwatering acidity throughout. One of our finest value Sauvignon Blancs.

Notes

This family-owned domaine dates back to 1804, and is located in a tiny Loire village named St-Julien-de Chédon. Since 2009, Laurent Benoist has been at the helm, focusing his efforts on sustainable farming and pure, terroir-driven wines. As a region, Touraine has the flexibility to plant a wide range of varieties, so it’s different from the more formal areas such as Vouvray, which only allows Chenin Blanc, or Sancerre, which only allows Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. In Touraine, they can grow Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and a few other indigenous grapes seen at much smaller production levels. This gives the region the flexibility to be creative in their blends and wine making.
