Reviewed December 2023This team can do no wrong, and the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill is yet another magical wine. Based on 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it reveals a dense purple/ruby hue as well as majestic aromatics of ripe currants, scorched earth, mulberries, spring flowers, and graphite. With full-bodied richness, a layered, elegant mouthfeel, remarkable concentration, and absolutely flawless tannins, this regal First Growth-like effort deserves 7-8 years of bottle age and will have 30-40 years of overall longevity.

Take it home. Or give it a cellar.

Supremely rich and concentrated, Colgin's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill Vineyard nevertheless remains vibrant and energetic. Hints of bay leaf perk up scents of dark chocolate and black cherries on the nose, while the full-bodied, plushly textured palate glides easily into a prolonged finish redolent of loamy earth and red raspberries. Like so many of the world's greatest wines, it's a series of seeming paradoxes—in this case, ripeness and freshness, fruit and earth, density and vibrancy—that complement each other and emerge as an elegant, harmonious whole. So much graphite and currants with pine cone and fresh mushroom. Extremely aromatic and intense. Medium- to full-bodied with firm and polished tannins that are tight and focused. It goes on and on. The tannins are plush but firm and vibrant. Juicy and savory. Makes you want to drink it now but it will be better in five or six years.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill is a vibrant, expressive, all-encompassing wine. Dark and savory, the 2021 shows tremendous purity of fruit and exceptional balance. Dense dark fruit, mocha, spice and grilled herbs carry through to the huge, saline-driven finish. There's a bit of youthful tannin, but then again, this is Tychson Hill. More than anything else, I admire the wine's substance and overall presence. I can't wait to see how this ages. The 2021 married power with finesse. (AG)
