2022 Tua Rita "Redigaffi" Toscana

In 2022, there were six separate harvests for Redigaffi due to rain and the need for strict selection in such a hot year. Textured and silky, bright and saline, it opens with some intense pot pourri overtones and black and blue berries. In the mouth it's more red and blue fruits, sapid and succulent and underlined by wood, coffee bean and petrichor. Perfumed lavender and violet notes soar overhead. Very youthful, give this some time in the bottle before opening to enjoy it at its best. (JB)

So happy that we found some of this gem! This is truly one of the most legendary wines of Italy and by far one of the most important Merlots out there. This is the Merlot that really showed how Tuscany can be shoulder to shoulder with some of the greatest wines of Bordeaux. Since its debut within the mid-1990s this wine has always been one of the highest rated in the world, consistently, yet it is fairly uncommon to find it in the US. The 2022, once again is a refined powerhouse, delivering serious aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, and darkish cherries, layered with graphite, unusual spice, cocoa, and a touch of Tuscan herbs. This wine is so rich and silky, with seamless tannins and incredible depth, highlighting flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, and Balsamic undertones. The definition of smooth, only the highest quality French oak is used in this wine. I cannot agree more with this decision; this wine needs this treatment for sure. If you love Merlot and more generically you are a Bordeaux fanatic, this is the wine for you. And for anyone else, simply put, that is considered one of Italy’s greatest wines.
