Reviewed January 2024Various plots throughout. 50% whole bunch vinification. Interestingly this seems to have a lighter colour than the Clos Village despite being evidently a wine of greater body and concentration. The nose hovers between raspberry and strawberry, with a fresher finish. Medium length, though classy. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Nov 2023.

Vinous
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes was cropped at 41hL/ha, one of the earlier vineyards picked. Blended with just over 50% whole bunches, it offers wild berry fruit, peppercorns and a dash of white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins. It’s a gentle, lilting Gevrey with a poised, persistent finish. Understated, but classy.(NM)

Note: from a mix of vines that average 60+ years of age; the lieux-dits include Platières, Puits de la Baraque, Charreux, Combe de Lavaut, Nouroy and Murots. A more discreet application of wood is present on the more sauvage-suffused and slightly cooler nose of mostly essence of red berries. The vibrant and delicious if not especially dense middleweight flavors possess a really lovely texture before concluding in a tension-filled, well-detailed and lingering finish where a similar hint of mocha slowly emerges.
Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "From the south of Gevrey – From les Jouises and Fourneaux – 70-year-old vines. Here the red fruit is more forward and transparent – slightly perfumed too. In the mouth, this has beautiful fluidity – and even a little tension. Modest finishing bitters – keep it a couple of years but this is a super wine!"(01/2025)
