Reviewed January 2025A mix of Côte Pre-Girot (60%) and mainline Fourneaux (40%). 85% has been made in tank and 15% barrel. Pale lemon yellow. Slightly peachier in fruit profile but not too generous. Maybe more yellow plum. Saline/iodine at the finish, a much bigger scale wine here, good acidity, a little touch of Mont de Milieu style ripe fruit, long and complex. Very interesting, and typically right bank in style. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted Jun 2024.

Apricots, peaches and slate-like minerality dazzle on the nose. Nicely sappy, there is nippy acidity to keep this feeling fresh and mid-weight on the palate. The fruit from these 70-yearold vines sees 50% oak aging.

The 2023 Chablis Les Fourneaux Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru, which comes from 70-year-old vines, has a slightly more waxy bouquet than the regular cuvée. Yet it is still well defined and focused. The palate is fresh and taut on the entry, with touches of mirin and spices entering the mid-palate. This is quite a textural Chablis that oddly veers toward Chenin in style toward the finish. I still appreciate this Fourneaux and I am intrigued how it will age. Tasted blind at the BIVB offices in Chablis.(NM)

There are 40 main 1er Cru vineyards in Chablis and Les Fourneaux is located on its eastern edge. "Les Fourneaux" means "furnace," because this particular cru has a warm mesoclimate that produces ripe tropical wines. Notably, like many 1er crus, the vineyard has Kimmeridgian marl soils and old vines - some up to 75 + years old. 2023 was hot and dry. In typical Burgundy fashion, viticulturists had to battle spring frosts, rain (mildew!), and drought to make it to the finish line, but the harvest had high yields of lush ripe grapes. The Agnes Gleizes is ripe and round, soft on the palate, with saline, minerality, characteristic tropical notes, and a nice long finish.

From a nice trio of direct import Chablis comes this great premier cru bottle. These are older vines (around 75 years!) located in a warmer microclimate. What does that mean? Ripe fruit! The fruit here is excellent, but there's acidity and minerality to give it structure too. The palate is nice and round, and there's a lot of complexity here. This is a serious value of a Chablis!

Coming from older vines this wine has more density of flavor and superb structure. Acidity is on point but not overpowering, it's balanced well with rich citrus fruit and deep chalky note. Lovely and complex, worthy of aging and pairs well with richer seafood.
Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "About 75-year-old vines. Pres Girots and Fourneaux lieu-dits. This with 20% wood elevage – bottled November. More concentration a little less overt energy. Really vibrant in the mouth – a hint of CO2 aiding that. So wide and delicious in this finishing flavour."(02/2025)
