The 2019 Gian Luca Colombo Barolo is a great representation of a producer who is becoming famous in Barolo with his innovative approach and dedication to quality. Gian Luca Colombo is a talented winemaker recognized as one of the best. New face of the region has brought a new approach to traditional Barolo winemaking and his philosophy focuses on minimal intervention. Meticulous vineyard work and a close connection with the land. As a result, the wine is expressive, balanced and true to its origins… Colombo's winemaking journey began with a passion for Burgundy. Emphasizing Nebbiolo's elegance, precision and pure expression, it focuses on small-scale production and practicing sustainable viticulture. He manages to extract the best from his vineyards while respecting the environment. Every decision from fermentation in the cellar to the careful aging of the wine is made. This is done to preserve its integrity and unique properties. The 2019 vintage showcases the classic characteristics of Nebbiolo, with aromas of ripe red cherries, raspberries and dried rose petals. Along with more subtle notes of licorice, spice and earth. The palate gives the wine medium- to full-bodied, fine-grained tannins. For those who appreciate Barolo's uniqueness and modernity, Gian Luca Colombo's 2019 barolo is a must-try. It pairs perfectly with classic Piedmontese dishes like braised beef or truffle risotto. But there is also the potential for more sophistication to develop over the next decade. Colombo's work is a tribute to the future of Barolo, where tradition meets progression.

Notes

The Gian Luca Colombo Barolo 2019 is a refined and expressive wine from the hands of Gian Luca Colombo, a talented and innovative winemaker who has gained recognition for his minimal-intervention approach and dedication to crafting terroir-driven wines. Located in Piedmont, the heart of Italy's Barolo region, Colombo works with small, carefully tended vineyard parcels to produce wines that reflect the unique characteristics of their origins. The 2019 vintage in Barolo is known for its balance and elegance, with a long growing season that allowed the Nebbiolo grapes to develop full ripeness and complexity. The vineyards used for this Barolo are situated on steep slopes with calcareous clay soils, providing ideal conditions for producing high-quality Nebbiolo. The wine undergoes fermentation with native yeasts and is aged in large oak casks, which allows for a slow maturation that preserves the wine's aromatic purity. The Gian Luca Colombo Barolo 2019 showcases aromas of red cherries, rose petals, and hints of earthy spices, with subtle undertones of tobacco and licorice. On the palate, it is structured yet elegant, with fine-grained tannins and a long, persistent finish. This Barolo embodies Colombo's philosophy of respecting tradition while embracing modern winemaking techniques, resulting in a wine that truly expresses the soul of Barolo.
