This champagne is the most expressive all Meunier bottle in our stock and has a spectacularly generous bouquet of tarte tatin toast and a rich mid palate of pain au levin and perfect pear. For all of that openness and concentration, it finishes so dry, so clean, so long, that the back end reminds me more of a blanc de blancs. This tiny production champagne is a one-shot deal- once it is gone, it is gone!

Concentrated and focused with minerality and bright acidity supported but delicious pear D'Anjou and Reine des Reinettes apple and some fresh bread note. It's complex, it keeps changing and evolving in your glass as you drink it which is always fascinating and makes it more enjoyable. Great Champagne worth any occasion as well as Sunday night!

It never ceases to confuse me that Meunier, a grape so vital to quality in so many great champagnes, can be looked down upon and disregarded by so many of the big houses of the region. No wine is a better example of the heights Meunier can reach than the 2016 Thierry Thibault Vintage Brut Champagne. The wine opens with rich flavors of pastry crust, juicy pear, and spiced green apple while the finish bubbles with energy, shifting into chalky minerality and sea salt. Few bottles of Champagne can strike such a balance of leesy breadth and mineral freshness, and even fewer can be found at the sub-$100 mark. In that way, the 2016 Thierry Thibault Brut Champagne has achieved two daunting feats; it costs less than half of other bottles of similarly stunning quality and it exemplifies the greatness of Meunier.
Notes
This single vineyard, 100% Meunier champagne comes from the oldest and best plot of Thierry Thibault's estate, La Croix St. Remy in the fabled-for-meunier village of Verneuil. The over fifty year old parcel is vinified in stainless steel and was aged for six years on the lees and then more than a year on the cork. Thierry's father was the chef de cave at Charles Heidsieck, and was a huge believer in post disgorgement ageing. The results are fantastic- a rich tarte tatin nose and mid palate, filled with Meunier personality but free of any rustic flavors, followed by a fantastically crisp and refreshing finish. -Gary Westby, K&L
