Reviewed December 2023In the colorful bottle with two giant hands on the front label, the La Fortuna 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Giobi has an interesting bouquet with plenty of savory toast and leafy spice aromas of bay leaf, black pepper and dried flower. Toasted oak flavors wrap over the palate, but the tannins are accessible and velvety. It shows careful balance. I tasted bottle number 43 of only 4,000 made. (ML)

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Giobi lifts from the glass with a seductive blend of confectionary spices, dried orange peels, violets and pine shavings. This is silky smooth yet lifted in style with floral-laced wild berry fruits and minerals that swirl beneath an air of violet pastille. Wood-grained tannins frame the finish as the Giobi tapers off long and staining, leaving a hint of licorice to fade slowly. The balance here is delightful, yet the style is one of more wood than fruit. (EG)
