A clear fresh mid purple. The bouquet is really very stylish, more floral. Also with a fresh raspberry touch, and some red cherries. Super texture in the mouth, not a blockbuster at all, but a very evenly balanced fruit with some alpine strawberries to finish. Note the particularly fine long aftertaste. This is the only wine to be racked.

The great-niece of Henri Jayer farms her small plot of Echézeaux du Dessus biodynamically, realising meagre yields. She gently ferments the grapes in open-top wood vats before ageing 14-18 months in a cask. In 2020 this impressive wine showed a compellingly dark mulberry fruit, hints of leather, earth and wild herbs. The wine seems enormous and powerful on the palate with considerable tannin and structure, and a muscular, lingering finish. This is top-notch wine that will take a few years to open but should last for decades.(CC)

Broader and more flamboyant than the Chapelle-Chambertin, the 2020 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru bursts with aromas of plums, wild berries, exotic spices, orange rind, peonies and smoked meats. Full-bodied, ample and perfumed, it's layered and concentrated, with a fleshy, multidimensional core of fruit, lively acids and a long, expansive finish.(WK)

The 2020 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru has a very intense bouquet with vivacious red fruit, blood orange and brown spices, just a touch of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and quite structured. This will clearly need time, the most backward of Tremblay’s cuvées, but it will be worth the wait.(NM)
