Reviewed September 2023Grown at both ends of the valley, Les Epinottes and Les Mélinots, with old vines in both plots. 25% wood. Very pale colour. Cool and backward, no signs of excess ripeness here. All in white fruit, barely even any lemons, with the requisite drier stony finish and the pleasing youthful grip. A fine example. Drink from 2026-2032.

Vinous
The 2022 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru has a composed and quite mineral-driven bouquet that is more complex and terroir-driven than its peers. The palate is well-balanced with a keen thread of acidity, grapefruit and lime. The 2022 has a bitter lemon finish. I admire its focus and energy—a well-crafted Vaillons. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.(NM)

When was the last time that you saw a Chablis with Vaillons fruit at this price?! It is not only very well-priced. it is also quite wonderful. A really beautiful nose with tropical white fruits and light citrus scents. On the palate, golden (more so) and green (less so) apple fruit with some poached white pear fruit in between. This is a more "plush" style and is quite mouthfilling. With that in mind, it will be great with a nice roasted chicken that has a brown and crackly skin.
Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "This and the Montmains have 80-year-old vines. On the border of Sechets in Epinottes and Minots. 25% wood elevage.Hmm – much more open in the higher tones and with the cliché florals of Vaillons – almost a sherbet style. In the mouth too – bubbling with energy – depth of delicious flavour. I love it!" (01/2024)
