The brilliant 2019 Andrew Will ‘Ciel du Cheval Vineyard’ Red Wine is a Right Bank inspired blend that combines 52% Cabernet Franc with the remainder Merlot. Anise, black currants, graphite and scorched earth tones mark the nose. The palate is beautifully balanced with good elegance and verve, as this glides throughout the drinking experience. This displays really nice flavor density despite the coolness of the vintage. Drink 2024-2036

Tobacco, assorted red and black fruits, damp earth, and hints of truffle all emerge from the 2019 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard, a pure, medium to full-bodied blend of 52% Cabernet Franc and 48% Merlot that's from a great site on Red Mountain. They've done a great job with the tannins here, and this wine brings a beautiful sense of elegance and finesse on the palate. It's already approachable, but like the other Andrew Will releases, it will evolve for 15-20 years if stored properly.

Focused, dusty and delightful, the 2019 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard offers that classic, mineral Red Mountain grip with hints of graphite and pencil shavings on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, the palate explodes with plenty of complexity and flavors of dark plum and black raspberry, making way for firm gripping tannins. It ends with a long, dusty, mineral finish that will allow this gorgeous wine to age gracefully for years to come. 94+

Christmas has come early! Yes, that's best price you'll see anywhere (by a lot) on this killer bottling from Andrew Will. Needing little introduction, Chris Camarda owner / winemaker of Andrew Will is without doubt one of the most talented vignerons in the country. His Bordeaux inspired wines sourced from the very best "First Growth" vineyards in Washington have been perennial standouts here at K&L, a company that has prided itself on selling Bordeaux wines for 50 years. Well, this stunning bottling from Ciel Du Cheval Vineyard on Red Mountain will stand toe-to-toe with top notch Saint-Émilion and not flinch. Folks who love the bold, powerful, rich fruit that Red Mountain gives, but who also love a more old-world inspired flavor profile simply have to try this wine. It is simply stunning. Ciel Du Cheval Vineyard is home to some of the very oldest vines on Red Mountain, planted in 1975. This vineyard was paramount in propelling the region into the stratosphere of collectible wine. This site was in fact one of the two original vineyards that Andrew Will launched with back in 1989, so this bottling marks a 30-year history of working with these storied vines! Chris' experience combined with the vineyard's inherent pedigree come together to create something very special in the bottle. This wine is packed with purple fruits, mulberry, cassis, plum. It's also struck through with rocky minerals, unsmoked cigar, cedar chest, pencil shavings, hints of leather, crushed violets, subtle wintergreen and lavender notes. Medium plus bodied, with wonderfully refined tannins, perfect balance, seamless integration of oak, fruit and savory varietal characters. I can't believe we're offing a bottle of wine this good, this renowned, this darn near perfect, for such a low price! Buy it now, drink it tonight, drink it next year, drink it 10 years from now. It's beautiful right now, but certainly will continue to develop for another 8-10 years and probably drink well for another 5+ after that. Mark my words - you'll be very sorry if you miss this one.

Taking an initial whiff from the glass, I was rewarded with scents of very (very!) dark red fruits mingled with fresh earth (dark rich soils), dried lavender and a little bit of black licorice. On the palate, quite expansive, with mouth-coating cassis, ripe blackberry and chocolate black cherry flavors. The background flavors are a lot of what I found in the nose. Clean oak, some tart tannin, tobacco and anise. It finishes clean, with a undying chalky aspect. Translation, this will age very well! It's delicious today AND it will keep. Pretty perfect.

Super expressive nose, despite having just pulled the cork 30 seconds ago. Immediately a bright red cherry jumped out, followed by boysenberry, barrel spice, something floral, and then a little touch of tarry cocoa leather. I get that sounds like a lot all at once, but that's how it hit me. The palate is a lot more savory than I thought it would be, and I really like that. There's this kind of inky dark note in the very core of the fruit, and outward from there it peels back in layers of fruit and savory in equal measure, there's more of that fresh leather, lots of cocoa and coffee around the periphery and in the very midst of everything is this super dense core of blackberry, blueberry, and dark dusty cherry. This is a crazy good bottle of wine for this price, and is for people who love love their reds a little more dark, concentrated, and with a nice hit of something savory there in the midst of it all. This wine deserves none but the chunkiest of your potatoes, lovingly assaulted with butter and then served aside the protein of your choice.
