Reviewed June 2023An exquisite wine, Le Cinciole's 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Aluigi Campo ai Peri is immediately seductive. More than anything else, I admire the purity and delineation here. Sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, mint, rose petal and dried herbs are finely cut in this chiseled, vibrant Gran Selezione. Le Cinciole sets the standard. What a gorgeous wine this is. The 2019 spent two years in 25hL cask and a year in cement. AG

The Cinciole Grand Selezione showed supple characters at first, bursting with cherry, raspberry and plum. Over time of being opened the savory notes of olive, tomato leaf and thyme begin to come up to the forefront. Compared to the Petresco, the Aluigi is less vibrant florals and more sweet tobacco and chicory root on the nose. This Sangiovese is enjoyable on its own and does not require food in particular but would not hurt to have with some antipasti, simple side noshes or straightforwardly prepared comfort dishes. I imagine those selections would be just delightful with this Sangiovese. No need to decant just pop the cork and enjoy.
