2021 Sesta di Sopra Rosso di Montalcino

A burst of crushed raspberry and sweet smoke comes together with cloves, cinnamon sticks and hints of worn leather as the 2021 Rosso di Montalcino opens in the glass. This is softly textured yet lifted in feel with ripe red fruits propelled by juicy acidity, as rosy inner florals add further depth. The 2021 tapers off structured and long, leaving the mouth watering even as grippy tannins resonate. The 2021 found excellent balance in this warm vintage. (EG)

This limited production Rosso is certainly Brunello quality in the 2021 vintage, and an overall stellar bargain in Tuscany regardless of the categorization. There's great purity and focus here, with deep red fruit and floral aromas that have one nuance after another. On the palate it is elegant, but the flavors are explosive with delicious light-to-deep red fruit, measured tannins, and a long, mouthwatering finish. We're big fans of Sesta di Sopra here at K&L, but for me, this is at another level and is one of the great buys in Tuscany in the store right now.
