This amazing white St.-Joseph literally smells like crushed rock! Then comes a texturally complex full-bodied palate that’s richer and creamier than the nose suggests, then, it turns back in the radical stony direction, growing in power as it does. Just doesn’t want to stop! From a clay rich soil. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

A lovely light and floral style on the nose, and on the palate it’s only medium-bodied this year, not as rich as a typical vintage, and much higher in acidity. Vibrant and zesty. Fermented in fûts and old barriques, this spends a year on the lees. (MW)

Blending 80% Marsanne with 20% Roussanne, the grapes for the 2021 Saint-Joseph Blanc Les Oliviers were harvested comparatively late at the end of September. Showcasing vivid lemon flesh, spring blossom, yellow apple and cedar, the complex aromatic profile is complemented by reductive gradations. Medium-bodied and concentrated, the 2021 shows plenty of energy. Flintstone elements enrich the layered finish. (NG)

I love the white from these two brothers, and their 2021 Saint Joseph Les Oliviers Blanc is rock-solid, offering a clean, pure, crisp style as well as notes of white peach, honeyed grapefruits, and a touch of chalky minerality. This medium-bodied, balanced, elegant white shows the style of the vintage beautifully and will evolve for 7-8 years.

Notes

John Livingstone-Learmonth for Cradle of the Rhône: "(tank, bottling 15 Dec 2022) shiny, inviting yellow robe, the bouquet is alert on the outside, ripe on the inside with a peach, flan, apricot aroma, variety to come. The palate holds stylish gras, sustains and holds well, gives a good line of spearmint late on, is a good mix of gras richness and freshness, a return to the 1980s, has great clarity, an effortless tone, with very joli silk, is floral and delicate. There’s a discreet nutty tone on the close." (10/2022)
