We don’t talk much about the whites of the southern Rhone but the Montfaucon Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc should certainly be put on everyone's radar. The wines is based on mostly Clairette (some of vigneron Rudi’s oldest vines are Clairette) with a little Grenache Blanc and Viognier. Clairette provides nice structure and mineral tones, Grenache Blanc adds weight and Viognier gives some lift to the aromatics. It’s a nice three-way blend to see how each grape brings something different to table to make a sum-greater-than-its-parts kind of cuvee. It’s like this wine was built to bring to parties and share showing off its flavors of nectarine, white flowers and marzipan.

This awesomely fragrant CDR Blanc has scents of lychee, oranges and white flowers. In the mouth, nicely dry with white fruits, stone fruits and a very nice minerality. Super solid!

Notes

Just across the Rhône river from the esteemed vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this 88-acre estate is owned and operated by Rodolphe de Pins, a UC Davis graduate and former member of the winemaking staff at Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. Montfaucon crafts their Côtes du Rhônes to express the intense fruit characteristics of the appellation, blending to achieve harmony and balance.
