Reviewed October 2023Some pear-drop notes alongside rose hip. A supple palate with good freshness, red fruits and attractive energy as well. Nicely textured with good body weight but still a nice lick of energy beneath. 16/20 points (AC)

A recent addition to the Montfaucon line is the Lirac Rosé. It was introduced a couple of years ago and was an instant success. This is fuller bodied rose reminiscent of the wines of Tavel (which also happens to be the neighboring appellation). The wine goes through some barrel aging (all neutral) but this provides a richer red fruit character which is accented by notes of peach, blood orange and a whisp of salinity. This is a great rosé to help carry us through to the next season.

As always, this Rose is one of my favorites. The vintage 2022 is also a super nice one. This mouth filling beauty has a nose of rose petals, dark raspberries and lush cherry. Nicely rich, with dark strawberry fruit and cherry hard candy flavors. Add in generous minerals and a lingering finish. This one will work well on its own but, calls out for barbecue and fried chicken!
Notes
Just across the Rhône river from the esteemed vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this 88-acre estate is owned and operated by Rodolphe de Pins, a UC Davis graduate and former member of the winemaking staff at Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. Montfaucon crafts their Côtes du Rhône to express the intense fruit characteristics of the appellation, blending to achieve harmony and balance. The Lirac Rose is an hommage to its neighbor Tavel, showing the same verve and richness that accompanies that hallowed rose producing region.
