Reviewed August 2022With 12% merlot and the all-important 2% malbec and 1% cabernet franc! Matured in French barrels for 14 months (20% new). A medium crimson. Lifted and attractive nose redolent of boysenberries and other briary fruits. A simply delicious and approachable medium-bodied wine with fresh fruit, supple tannins and moreish acidity. Great value.

The nose of the 2020 Dominique Portet "Fontaine" Cabernet Sauvignon unfolds with layers of complexity and beautiful integration, offering an initial peek of the amazing quality this wine has to offer. Blackberry and black plum aromas part way for an herbal core of eucalyptus and green pepper. The palate perfectly balances the concentration of fruit, herbal tones, and eucalyptus that makes Autralia's Yarra Valley such a special place for Cabernet Sauvignon. This sub-$20 wine easily competes with examples that are two or three times the price from California.
