The 2021 les Clos from Vincent Dauvissat is another brilliant wine in the making. The bouquet is deep, nascently complex and very precise, offering up a constellation of tart orange, apple, pear, flinty minerality, citrus zest, a gentle framing of vanillin oak and a topnote of anise. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and complex, with a great core, outstanding mineral drive and grip, a lovely spine of acidity and a long, focused and perfectly balanced finish. Another simply stunning wine. 2029-2075.

Note: from 3 different parcels of 50+ year old vines that total 1.0 ha A discreet application of wood suffuses the restrained and beautifully layered nose of mineral reduction, iodine, tidal pool, white orchard fruit and a vague hint of phenolic character. The super-sleek, dense and intense broad-shouldered flavors possess a palate etching mouthfeel while delivering simply remarkable length on the stony, austere and very dry finale. At the moment this has slightly better complexity compared to the Preuses though that may well change with a decade plus of aging. In sum, this is superb. *Burghound Don't Miss!*

The 2021 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is more open on the nose than Les Preuses, more floral with citrus peel and orange blossom aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, lightly spiced, quite cohesive but maybe the Les Preuses shows a little more sophistication towards the finish. This should evolve into a divine Les Clos but as usual, it will need time. (NM)

This is a gracious, engaging and open Clos that could be tempting to drink early (but certainly shouldn't be!) Pretty floral top notes meld with pomelo before turning notably chalky. The dense, broad and somewhat muscular mid-palate offers up sweet orchard fruits. There is a striking nobleness to this year's Clos, even before it is in bottle.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Normally from 7 different parcels ‘makes the chance to bring a nice synthesis of the vineyard.’ Not fully open but the most accessible aromatics of these in tank. Volume and energy – clarity for sure. A rounder wine – fine middle impact – not necessarily better than Preuses but certainly very different, perhaps a little more complex yet less intense than the invigorating Preuses. Not better, just different – I’d take the Preuses myself, today…."
