2022 Oakridge "Over the Shoulder" Pinot Noir Yarra Valley Victoria

A K&L Exclusive Direct Import. Made by 20+-year veteran, Yarra Valley winemaker David Bicknell. David is considered by many as one of the best winemakers in all of Australia. The Over The Shoulder label is basically estate fruit that didn't quite make the cut for the much more expensive single-vineyard bottlings but still represents excellent quality and an exceptional value. This is a more elegant, medium bodied style of Pinot with very moderate alcohol. Think of it like a great bottle of Bourgogne Rouge. The 2016 Pinot is sourced from vineyards in Gladysdale (40%), Woori Yallock (39%) and Coldstream (21%) during a warm, dry growing season. Whole clusters were fermented then pressed into oak barrels for maturing. Tasting notes from the winemaker: "Deep dark cherry-red with dark red hues. Bright, spicy cherry fruit, blood plum, cinnamon, pomegranate and hints of raspberry and musk. Depth and weight apparent. Ripe yet crunchy fruit – black fruited with a weaving of lighter, red fruit detail; alpine strawberry, preserved cherry and cranberry that add a nice fruit-acidity. This in turn add a sense of line and length."
