James Suckling
Reviewed November 2023This is so lively and vibrant offering aromas of sour cherries, raspberries, dried strawberry bush, white pepper, smoked herbs and pomegranate skins. It’s medium-bodied with a delicacy and freshness to the red fruit highlighted with a clean, juicy acidity. Silky and polished. Beautiful now, but can hold too.

Decanter
Several recent bottles of Foillard's 2021 Côte du Py convincingly show this among the top wines in the appellation, even in a challenging vintage. There is a lovely dark colour and pronounced raspberry and pomegranate fruit aromas with an edge of wild herbs and menthol. The texture is elegant and harmonious, without the massive weight of some sunnier years. There is fresh acidity but the wine is fully ripe and far from tart. This truly delicious wine drinks well now but will continue to improve over at least the next five years. (CC)

Vinous
Fresh and wonderfully fleshy, the 2021 Morgon Côte du Py from Jean Foillard is an absolute delight. Floral and savory notes play off a core of vibrant red and purplish-hued fruits. I can think of many regions where a wine of this quality would command two to three times the price. (AG)

Wine Advocate
The 2021 Morgon Côte du Py is fresh, lithe and elegant, with aromas of tart plums, red and black currants, Indian spices, rose petals and wet stones. On the palate, fine-grained, latticed tannins support the crunchy-fruited core, and an impressive depth of flavor expands to include sweet soil and spearmint tones. The tangy acids work to further emphasize the underlying salinity, which serves as the driving force leading the crisp, wizened finish. This is a wonderful release from the domaine, surely worth seeking out if not too late. (KW)

True to itself Foillard produces slightly funky, very mineral and earthy style of Morgon. It's light and savory on the palate with muddled plum and red cherry fruit profile with a hint of pink peppercorn on the nose. Acidity is not very high but definitely refreshing. This wine would benefit from some aging.
Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "A more vertical nose – high and low tones – that’s very fine. Wide, but a wine that’s growing in intensity in the mouth – a more cushioned concentration. Some extra finishing structure. There’s more here than the Corcelette but the Corcelette is a little more fluid – similarly excellent!"
