Reviewed May 2023A year-in, year-out smoking value as well as a great bottle of wine, the 2021 Côtes du Rhône Mon Coeur checks in as equal parts Grenache and Syrah brought up in neutral oak. Its vivid ruby hue is followed by a medium-bodied, elegant, lively red offering pretty red and black berry fruits, some spring flowers, peppery herbs, and gamey nuances, fine tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. Coming from a cooler year, it still brings plenty of richness and depth and is well worth seeking out.
Notes
John Livingstone-Learmonth for Cradle of the Rhône: "red colour with a little purple; the nose has an incense, pine woods air, with decisive cassis fruit, a cool edge to it, a white pepper backdrop. The palate engages well, presents a fluid run of dark berry fruit, cut in the tannins, a fresh burst into the finish, a note of fruit gum style gras there. It’s very coherent between nose and palate, is a road runner with bright black fruits and a sprinkle of chalky tannins. Great with steak frites, for example. It’s upbeat and well fruited Côtes with good heart, core." (08/2023)
