Reviewed December 2024The 2019 Paradigm is a lovely wine showcasing dark-berried fruit layered with a host of elegant spices. Its medium- to full-bodied palate is profoundly flavourful and complex. The perfumed elegance of violets and rose petals is perfectly balanced by the wine's inky dark fruit character, all supported by intricate, fine-grained, and super firm tannins. The finish is long, mineral-driven, and defined by freshness, balance, and energy. I find myself shaking my head over the lack of critical praise for these wines over the years and applaud the consumers who have locked into a spot on the mailing list at Paradigm because they are world-class wines from pedigreed vines, ageworthy, and offer just about the best QPR (quality-to-price ratio) in Napa these days.

This is unmistakable Oakville Cab on the nose. It sets the mind adrift to late summer/early autumn at the cellar doors of a winery during crush with notions of rich, heady blackberry and cassis, dry bramble, and sunbaked earth. The wine glides across the palate —a smooth, silky mouthful that exudes luxury. Plum coulis, cassis, sundried bramble, rose petals, and dusty red earth linger on the palate. Even at full price, this wine offers a remarkable experience to savor now or cellar for later.

Putting your nose into the glass, is kind of like sticking your nose into Napa itself. There's just something amazing and classic about Paradigm, and their wines are an absolute banger of a deal when you look at what you're getting. This is Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, a nose that has a savory line through it with touches of black olive and a dense darker sort of earthiness, but the fruit is gorgeous rapidly overwhelming the more savory elements, showcasing a nose filled with dense dark fruit, black cherry and bramble fruits, but then giving way again to toasted tobacco and flecks of cedar with just a touch of peppercorns. The palate is all stewed and dried cocoa-dusted fruits, rich and powerful but still elegant. A truly masterful wine and a great little treat.
