Reviewed January 2022The 2020 Ventoux Divergente also has more than a hint of Northern Rhône-like vibe in its black raspberry, flowers, smoked game, burning ember, and liquid violet aromas and flavors. Possessing incredible purity of fruit as well as medium to full-bodied richness, it has regal, polished tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. This needs plenty of air to show at its best, so I suspect it will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and show fabulously well over the following decade. Hats off to Sebastien Vincenti for another brilliant wine.

A ripe and fruity nose of raspberries, strawberries, cherries, dried herbs and sweet spices. Medium body with creamy tannins. It’s round with a generous amount of cherries on the juicy palate and a flavorful, textured finish.

The Divergente is a truly special wine from this part of the southern Rhone. Nearly all Syrah from old Serine clone parcels, there is nothing else quite like it in the region. This clone is famous for making some of the most sought after northern Rhone versions, especially from Cote-Rotie and Hermitage. So what's it doing down here in Ventoux? Making incredibly distinctive Syrah that has its own signature. Since we're further south, there is a lush richness to the wine but there is that savory undercurrent that distinguishes this clone from other Syrah. Like I said, very special stuff and worthy of adding many bottles to your collection. I know I did!

Approaching the apogee of bottlings from this remarkable Ventoux property, the "Divergente" is crafted from 100% Syrah planted in 1955! This wine reveals both amplitude and breadth in its pliant, seductively polished black fruits and mesmerizing aromas of smoked meat, wildflowers, thyme and black olive, embellished by silky tannins and a lingering spicy finish. Savory and utterly emblematic of this choice property, it can be laid down for several years if desired.
