Made from equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the 2012 Champagne Brut Millésime is the 30th vintage of this cuvée, and the next vintage will be 2015. For at least the last five vintages, the wine was aged a minimum of 10 years. A bright straw/silver color, the 2012 is bright and expressive with fresh, concentrated notes of pure pear, crushed stones, white flowers, pastry dough, and lime blossoms. The palate has wonderful tension and concentration, with a chiseled and well-defined feel to its ripe notes of lime and a hint of Pinot Noir spice, and as it opens in the glass and its Pinot Noir side starts to shine through, it expresses a slightly warmer side to the wine. The mousse is refined and lively, with a pinpoint feel, and it’s long on the palate, with a clean finish. This is a very impressive vintage from Laurent-Perrier. Drink 2024-2044. (AF)

A vintage that marks the producer's 200th anniversary, the Champagne is ripe with mature white fruits. It is an impressive wine that has richness alongside a tight mineral texture. *Cellar Selection* (VB)

The 2012 vintage from Laurent-Perrier has mysterious, smoky aromas of quince and apricot fruit, with shadings of brioche and ground coffee, leading into a surprisingly rich texture on the palate. Still, there is abundant acidity to keep everything in balance, and the wine lingers moreishly on the palate. The wine is half Pinot Noir and half Chardonnay from top villages, including Oger, Cramant and Chouilly for the Chardonnay and Bouzy, Aÿ and Verzy for the Pinot. (CC)

Elegant array of lemons, slate, biscuits, oyster shells, croissants and brioche. Precise and focused on the palate, with sharp acidity and tight, fine bubbles. Pure and youthful for now. 50% chardonnay and 50% pinot noir. Dosage 8g/L.

This fantastic bottle of champagne is tasting like it is almost sold out... Because it is almost sold out! For me, the Laurent Perrier showcases the completeness of 2012, not only does it have brioche laden richness and generous toasty aromas, but also fantastic citric precision. The color is unmoved from when it was first released back in 2022, as is the freshness. The difference is simply that the wine is totally open for business now and in a very expressive stage of its development. If you decide to keep some in your cellar, you will be pleased, this is a wine with a great long life ahead of it! It should show as well as a 30-year-old as it does as a 15-year-old.

Really pretty and fruit-forward nose comes out of the glass with just a little bit of swirling, more in depths analysis finds a lovely brioche toast. There's a lot of crisp green apple, lemon zest, quince, and then a line of chalk-covered almonds running in the deep background. The palate is explosive and amazing, it has a really outstanding depth and ripping acidity with more crisp green apples doused in lemon and then finishing with a long and lingering chalky and slightly saline minerality, all whilst a soft and pretty nuttiness works its way through the entire palate. This is a really gorgeously aged wine, and something I'm absolutely going to take home soon. This is the kind of champagne that you should make the center point of an amazing meal, it has all the depth, grace, and acidity that would make that kind of pairing possible. For me, one of my favorite things is Champagne and oysters and especially with the delicious and brisk level of acidity, I think that'll be a pretty perfect pairing.

Notes

Laurent-Perrier has only declared 30 vintages since 1812, and this 2012 follows the 2008. The wine is composed of half Chardonnay and half Pinot Noir, entirely from Grand Cru sites. This vintage is a great one for LP, and they selected very strictly from the small 2012 harvest for parcels which reflect the concentration and power of this year. This wine has great brioche notes, a creamy mid-palate and a long, bright finish. -Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer
