James Suckling
Reviewed February 2023Deep nose of spices, licorice and dried cherries with a pronounced flinty note. Cool and sleek but with impressive concentration for the 2021 vintage, this already has wonderful harmony right through the long, structured and stony finish. Bottled with low sulfur addition and unfiltered. Drink or hold.

Vinous
The 2021 Morgon Non-Sulphité has a beautifully-defined bouquet with vivacious red berry fruit, hints of black olive and oyster shell - very focused. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Cool and linear, sophisticated in style with a saline finish. This Morgon looks the challenges of the growing season in the eye and overcomes everything thrown at it. Magnificent. (NM)

Burghound
Here too the nose is markedly restrained with its discreet aromas of essence of red cherry, raspberry, earth and subtle pepper hints. The delicious and quite supple if punchy medium weight flavors possess a lovely texture while exhibiting fine length on the firm, serious, compact and built-to-age finale. This bold and moderately rustic effort will need at least 5 years of keeping before it should be ready for prime time. Worth considering provided you intend to cellar it.
Notes
Owned and run by Marcel and Mathieu Lapierre, the domaine's vines are raised without the use of artificial fertilizers or herbicides; the father-son team have also been experimenting biodynamics on some of their older vines. Named for Mathieu's sister, Cuvée Camille comes from the Morgon lieu-diet of Côte du Py with old vines on granite soils.
