Burghound
Reviewed January 2021Like the Clos du Roy, the nose is brooding and almost mute while only grudgingly revealing its notes of ripe plum, warm earth and hint of violet. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the appealingly delineated and overtly stony flavors that possess much better depth and persistence on the youthfully austere finale. This will also need at least a few years of bottle age to unwind and flesh out.

This is the crossover wine, the gateway drug of our Burgundy lineup, with enough black Pinot Noir fruit to make the Sonoma coast fans swoon. You have been warned! This is a glimpse at the richness that the wines of the Côte d’or can offer, at a price that can only be achieved with direct importation
Notes
89-92 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "25% whole bunch vinification and 25% new wood for Les Grandes Vignes in 2019. The soil here retains water and the fruit ripens early and easily, so some stems are useful to maintain freshness. Brisk intense mid purple. The nose shows an impressive weight of dark raspberry fruit and some good intensity, some tannins behind, with this same fruit profile continuing through on the palate. My pick from the range of Marsannays chez Bart this year, a wine which will replay some keeping."
