The 2013 Saint Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Haute Densité comes from vines planted at 30,000 vines per hectare, or in other words 30cm between each trunk! Of course that means everything must be done by hand (and perhaps also by a very thin person?) It has an intense, stony, mineral-driven bouquet that is very tightly wound: broody, almost introspective. The palate is crisp and energetic, real tension in the mouth, almost effervescent with a poised and very long finish. This is an outstanding Saint Aubin that will repay cellaring. (NM)

Here the nose is notably more restrained and only reluctantly offers up notes of white orchard fruit, red grapefruit and floral scents. Like the Tremblots there is excellent density to the notably more mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that also coat the palate with a seemingly inexhaustible reserve of dry extract that serves to buffer the firm acid spine on the gorgeously textured and persistent finale. Lovely stuff though note well that this is not a good candidate to drink young. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*

Ripe peach and subtle mineral dust on the nuanced but youthfully reticent nose and palate. Plush and tactile in the mouth but also shows superb energy for the vintage. Best today on the tight but very long finish, which features a strong note of ripe peach. This will need a while to deliver on its full aromatic potential. (ST)
